Writer’s Retreat 2020

Writer’s Retreat 2020

Do you want to write?

9 – 12 March 2020

Who should attend?

The retreat is for anyone who wants to write a book, a short story or even a children’s book. It is tailored to your skill level. Are you a novice who wants to try something new or an experienced writer who wants to discover, or rediscover, their story? We’ll be working hard and writing a lot in one of the most beautiful places in South Africa. At the end of the four days you should have your idea defined, book outlined and your story started and you’ll have gained a good understanding of the theory required to tell a story.

The Venue

Velorenkloof is one of my favourite places in South Africa. It is a working dairy farm and one the most picture-perfect settings in the world. Their slogan is ‘a mountain to call one’s own’ and even though there are other people around it feels like it’s just you and the mountain.

The crofts are beautiful, well-equipped and spacious. There are five bedrooms. Three bedrooms have twin beds. We will be using those. Should you wish not to share you are welcome to book the fourth room which has a double bed at an alternative rate. Please see pricing.

Facilitator

Mia Botha is a writer who wanted to figure out the novel-writing process for herself. Along the way, she turned into a writing teacher. She’s been teaching, guiding and sharing her knowledge for almost ten years. She loves writing, teaching and dreaming up new characters. In 2017 she set a challenge for herself to write 12 Short Stories in 12 months. She mentioned this on Facebook and found several liked-minded scribblers who wanted to share the challenge. Those same scribblers are completing the challenge for the third time. They’ve even picked up a few poets along the way.

One-on-one consultation(60min):

It’s all about you. I have no set structure for this session. It is up to you to ask questions and use it to your learning advantage. By this time we will have spent a day or so together, so I will make suggestions and offer advice, but please prepare as many questions as you can.
