Beyond the French windows the summer breeze plays with the candy-striped bunting. Hot coals spit and hiss as the scent of sizzling sausages drifts across the lawn to rough and tumble with the Turkish delight scent of this summer’s roses. Whoosh! I’m forcing air into a bright red balloon, checking how far it has inflated....
