A speck of a black dot
On the rippling waves
In the middle of nowhere
Yet right there amidst everything;
The towering mountain, a pale blue
Icy and powerful but assuring
Guiding the irregular stream
This […]

Thank you, Peggy! The former. I thought acrostic would be an easy way to use the prompt. The theme worked out as I started writing. Had to redo a bit to make it read better. π

I love the imagery you weave with your words, Christian. Our English teacher wants us to use fountain pens, and I’ve loved those ever since. Luckily, we had the ones that didn’t require dipping but rather needed filling. I feel the kids’ terror. Been there and done that, lol.

That’s a good take on the prompt. Our standards should be our own.
I like how you reworked the last month’s poem again. It’s beautiful! -

To be or not to be; to work or to take a nap
Alone among the rats, mice, and rabbits
No one but me being the cat, tortoise, or snail
Doing things at my pace; not the norm s […]

Hi Srivalli. I like the first line because it packs a punch. It says all about living according to standard. You have done a good work with the acrostic. Thank you.

Thank you, Nissan. π

I always like a challenge taken one extra step like this, writing to a prompt and adding the acrostic aspect. Also a nice twist, being rather anti-standard in the message. Nice!

Thank you, Sara. π

I love this! The message is spot on and so relatable! Did you start with the idea of using the prompt as the acrostic and found the theme after, or did you have a theme that you fit into the acrostic? Either way, it’s brilliant!

Thank you, Peggy! The former. I thought acrostic would be an easy way to use the prompt. The theme worked out as I started writing. Had to redo a bit to make it read better. π

Hello Srivalli,
Your acrostic works really well – it is relevant to the (difficult) prompt and the lines flow neatly from one to the next. Great poem.-
Thank you, Christian. π It sure is a difficult prompt.

Oh, I love the imagery it creates and the refrains you chose.
I did wonder about the rhyming but understood when I read the comments. This is a tough form to work on, and you did great with the imagery. - Load More
Hello Srivalli,Your poem reminds me of how small we humans are in comparison to the majesty of the world around us. I like the feeling that the ‘speck’ is conscious of this on his voyage across the water. Well done.
Your interpretation of the painting is spot on …. in the end life be ” a voyage of little consequence ”
well done
So lovely! Your poem fits the painting so well. “In the middle of nowhere/Yet right there amidst everything” captures, for me, the sensation of disconnecting from others while gaining an awareness and connection with nature that I’ve found when unplugged and alone in a natural setting. And so the poem speaks, to me, to the experience of the lone figure in the painting, who appears isolated but is really just a gentle soul, gliding peacefully along in harmony with the universe.
