  • Awww, thank you for the comment!
It truly is sad, but it has to happen…

Lola had been taken out of her carrier. She didn’t know why, but she couldn’t complain. She didn’t have the strength. She was too sick.

Lola’s human was somewhere near. She could h […]

    • Oh Camila! So sad, but beautiful because she knew that she was loved and she had loved. Although I knew what was coming because of your warnings it was made a little easier because she was a good age and her body was ready for it. Our pets are members of our family.

I liked how you included how she watched Mindy grow up and I liked that it was from Lola’s POV. The story flowed well and was easy to read. Enjoyable from a story side, but heart jerking topic close to home.

Well done and thanks for sharing.

    • Wow, Camila! My eyes are brimming with tears. Your story took me back to my childhood when I was gifted my sweet on my fifth b-day and we practically grew up together. She passed when I turned 20. So sad and heartbreaking to lose a beloved furry friend.

I loved the emotions and thoughts from the point of view of the kitty cat and it warmed my heart to know they both could say their good-byes. Thank you! Astrid

  • High above the clouds, floated a tiny kingdom. The people who lived there had many parties, and everybody was invited, from the king himself to the poorest worker. Those parties happened once a month, when the […]

    • This was an interesting read, a fun folktale and I definitely was hooked throughout. It’s more of a telling style likely because it is a folktale, and you had a lot of plot for 750 words, but adding more dialogue could help with more showing. Like when the witch met with the king. Also is the wizard immortal or close to it because the banquet has been a tradition for 200 years and he’s still around to talk about it? Just a few things to think about when you look this over. this was a fun read and I liked the message of love at the end. A folktale without a dark agenda? Love that. Thanks for sharing.

  • Aw, that’s cute! What a creative look into the prompt!
I just wanted to point out some issues. First, what did you mean by ‘stoned’ in “They were all born with smooth hair, he, stoned” ?
Second, in “an Grandma’s initiative”, you should use ‘a’ instead of ‘an’. We use ‘an’ before a vowel, and ‘a’ before consonants.
Other than that, I think it i…[Read more]

  • My parents worked as clowns and characters for birthdays when they were in college! Still, when I found out about the Professional Mermaids I almost didn’t believe!
    Thank you for reading!

  • You’re right about the photos. Still, mothers are crazy for them!

  • That was interesting. I don’t know much about tarot, so it is a curious event to read. Good writing. It was really nice to read.

  • That was very touching. Great writing!

  • Nice story, everything went smoothly. It was also incredibly well written and so creative! I enjoyed reading it!

  • Thank you for the comment and the correction! I’m glad you liked it. I normally don’t write dialogues, so your review was very welcome.
The title will stay as it is. I did consider “Rent a Mermaid”, but “Mermaid for hire” was how I found the mermaid schools that inspired me. Thanks for the advice, though, it is always good to hear what people have to say!

  • Noemi was turning six in two months, and her mother, Rochelle, wanted to make this birthday unforgettable. After all, she had just started school, and it had been stressful. Her baby deserved it. She thought hard […]

    • I enjoyed this story, and although it is very different to my normal taste/genre, it was a breath of fresh air. A feel good tale. The dialogue was real, and the sentence structure good.

I would consider looking over this sentence and potentially rewording it…

She searched online for creative pool party ideas. She saw face painting, lots of pool games, hula costumes, about a dozen of recipes… Noemi was fascinated with mermaids at that point, she recalled.

      • Sorry, I meant to add…

“For Noemi’s party?”, he sounded surprised, “Tell me”

This needs a full stop at the end. Minor typo.

I would also consider a title change, using your own awesome words… ‘Rent A Mermaid’.

Well done on creating a fun and interesting short story.

    • I agree with James’ points and congratulate you on a fun story.

My only suggestion would be that the photos would more likely have been taken whilst the mermaid was there!

      Thanks for sharing.

    • Loved the story and the other comments have mentioned the issues that could be worked on. Mermaid Luna was totally believable. My cousin was involved with a company who provided ‘Heroes for hire’, so it was very realistic (he was Spider-Man!!). Thank you for a lovely read.

    • A lovely, simple story that reveals the magic in the child’s eyes. I’ll keep up with your posts.

  • I loved your story! It’s funny how they wanted to be divided so badly, but realised they liked to be together.

  • Thank you, I’m glad you liked it!
